Round the Island Race

The annual JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, is one of the most popular fixtures on the Solent racing calendar. Competitors come from Europe and the USA, as well as all over the UK, to follow the 50 mile course round the Isle of Wight.

Starting on the famous Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes, the fleet races westabout, to The Needles, round St Catherine's Point and Bembridge Ledge buoy back into the Solent. Spectators can find many vantage points, both on the mainland and Isle of Wight, to watch the race progress.

Over 60 prizes are awarded for the event and every boat completing the race receives a memento of the occasion.

Whether you compete regularly or are new to the sport, you will enjoy superb racing in some of the country's best sailing waters. Whilst the fastest multihull record stands at just over three hours, the bulk of the fleet crosses the line during the late afternoon or early evening and it is often the smaller craft that carry off the top prizes!

If you are a newcomer to the event, the "First Timer's Guide" has more information and advice. Plus, of course, the staff at the Island Sailing Club will be happy to answer your questions – email rir@islandsc.org.uk or call 01983 296621.

Full details of the race are published in the Notice of Race, Safety Booklet and Sailing Instructions which you will find on our Race Documents page.

Dead Shoe Scrolls

Back in early 2000, a sketchbook was found containing concepts of 70s to 80s Adidas shoes. It was believed to belong to an Adidas employee from the design department of
that time. In the back of the book was an address to a dead stock warehouse in Prague containing all of these Adidas from the late 70s and later. You can buy the shoes from this secret underground stock on the site. (My favorites are the Rotterdam and the Micro Pacer

Puma Basket Brights

Recently added to the Puma line-up are two new colorways in the Puma Basket Brights. Originally release in the 70’s as a lowtop basketball model, they sport a Formstripe constructed from a shiny translucent material which glows. They are shown here in white / orange and black / purple and can now be found at select Puma accounts worldwide.

The Puma Cat 2

The Puma Cat 2 gets its name from the oversized Puma cat logo stitched into the heel. The old school shoes are being injected with a lil new age design by way of the ice/black outsole and the marble like cat sewn into the heel. The all white leather upper is broken up by the black and white laces. The large tongue is tipped with a red Puma Cat tongue tag. These are available at select Puma Retailers.

Adidas X James Bond for David Beckham

When Adidas asked David Beckham to contribute to their ObyO series he did what any true sneaker afficianado would do, called on his friend James Bond at UNDFTD. They collaborated on a reworking of the Marathon Runner Mid and the Offical High giving each a touch of cool with tassels and premium leathers. The Marathon runner is given two monochromatic colour schemes that let the laces steal the show while the Official High is all about the midsole stitches. Just like Beckham either pair can’t lose. These cool collabs that are set to release in June.

Do The Right Thing

Here's a closer look into another Jordan pack inspired by Spike Lee’s classic film, Do The Right Thing, which was initially seen back in February. Celebrating the movie’s 20th Anniversary, Jordan Brand works up two colorways in the Air Jordan 1, featuring a metallic finish, much like the highly sought after original metallic joints, on a white backdrop. Stay tuned for further details.

DJ Hero

Activision officially announced its newest music-oriented gaming title, DJ HERO. An offshoot from its immensely successful GUITAR HERO franchise, which gross £1.5 billion in sales worldwide, DJ HERO let you “be the life of the party”, and allow you to spin away popular dance tunes and hip-hop tracks.

The game will include a customized turntable controller with the familiar 4 color-coded buttons. Available in versions for the 4 major gaming consoles: Xbox 360, PS2, PlayStation 3, and Wii, DJ HERO will due out towards the end of October this year, with selected retailers (like Amazon) taking pre-release orders now.

In addition, just prior to the E3 gaming tradeshow this week, Activision briefly introduced a special edition of DJ HERO, currently in the works, with EMINEM and Jay-Z. It will include new greatest hits CDs, controller with advance functions, a DJ stand and a metal carring case. One other possibility is the special edition may include previously unreleased tracks. Details yet to come…

Nike Hypermax NFW Back to the Future “Marty McFly”

A few days ago, the Nike Hypermax NFW Back to the Future “Marty McFly” shoe was previewed, and now today detailed images of this new Nike Hypermax “McFly” inspired colorway have surfaced. While the Nike Hypermax typically features Flywire and Air Max, this particular shoe does not use Nike’s Flywire technology, hence the “NFW” in the shoe’s name. The shoe’s upper uses a simple Stealth colorway accented with some White, Pale Blue, and Vivid Pink.

Adidas Originals by Originals Jeremy Scott

Here are two new looks from the Adidas Originals by Originals Jeremy Scott Fall/Winter 2009 Collection, that you might not have seen so far. In terms of colors a little more subtle than the rest of the collection. Most interesting is for sure the tongue sneaker and the coach jacket.
